DR of Congo Security Council welcomes peace agreement with Rwanda

The Council President, Ambassador Jeremy Greenstock of the United Kingdom, said in a press statement that the members welcomed the agreement, which was concluded in Pretoria, South Africa, and looked forward to examining it in detail.They also anticipated hearing the considered view of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) and the UN Mission in the DRC (MONUC) in due course, he added.”There’s a lot of work there for the UN to do but a lot of discussion is needed to find out exactly what that is,” Ambassador Greenstock said, noting that the Council was likely to have a briefing on the agreement early next week.Council members also expressed their “warm appreciation” to the Government of South Africa for its role in facilitating the accord, Ambassador Greenstock said. read more

Brolly recovering in hospital after donating kidney to fellow coach

first_imgJOE BROLLY, FORMER Derry footballer and GAA pundit, is recovering in a London hospital after donating a kidney to a fellow coach at the St. Brigid’s club.The All-Ireland winner donated the kidney to his fellow under-10s coach Shane Finnegan last Wednesday in Guys Hospital in the English capital.“I’m honoured to have been in the position to help Shane,” Brolly told RTE.“When I heard that the only possibility of a one was through a live donor I contacted his medical team. “And of course in my considered opinion it’s all going according to plan – and thankfully the doctors concur.”The 40-year-old Finnegan said that Brolly’s kindness was “overwhelming and, of course, there are no words to thank him or his family for his wonderful gift.”Dermot Dowling is the chairman of St. Brigid’s and he said that Brolly’s act “epitomised the kind of man Joe is and the selflessness he displays.”Who’s involved in the new Dublin senior football management team? >last_img read more
